Ceramic work part of Tijdcollages, duo-exhibition together with Marijke Klamer at Streekhistorisch Centrum Stadskanaal.

Marijke and I were invited by Witte Olifanten to respond to the collection of the museum of local history in Stadskanaal through creating works of ceramics. We explored the repetitive shapes of mass production, the loss of a swamp and its inhabitants and a hot bottle factory. (2023)

ZOEK

2023

Renée Ensing and I were selected by the Hanze Art Committee for a special commission in the new canteen of the Marie Kamphuisborg. "ZOEK" is a composition made up of wooden shapes illustrating the themes of health, connection and social contact using everyday objects.
The artwork contains references to various study programmes in the building such as Social Work, Human Resource Management, Applied Psychology and more. The artwork also studies several overlapping themes that you can find in the Marie Kamphuisborg. In this visual puzzle, the viewer is invited to make their own connections between the different illustrations. The meaning of the artwork depends on the observer; everyone forms different connections.

Glaswerk

2020

A 48 page abstract comic about the material glass and its features: fluidity, fragility, reflection and its amorphous structure. Made with the guidance of comic artist Nino Bulling during my internship.

Merel Wendt (1999) is an illustrator, graphic artist and bottle enthusiast based in Groningen. Bottles are an inexhaustible source of inspiration to her, they function as characters in her work.
As a maker, she tries to visualise her fascination with their form by manipulating their properties, such as shape, color and size. She stretches, inflates and exaggerates them. In doing so, she aims to reacquaint the viewer to the bottle as both form and object.

Her illustrated bottle collection began as her graduation project called PFAND in which she used her role as illustrator and bottle enthusiast to visualise the invisible collection of Berlin's deposit collectors. This culminated in a major form study of the bottle, which is still ongoing. She takes an analogue approach in her work, using techniques such as lithography, screen printing, ceramics and pencil.
